This infection can last up to eight weeks. On the other hand, a pet may also be infected with rabdovirus, which is transmitted from an infected cat towards another. This would cause symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, hydrophobia, increased salivation, and unexplainable behavior. It is important to be very cautious not to get bitten by infected pets. The effect of rabies is fatal to humans.
